Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
~ Leonardo da Vinci
We keep complicating everything. Conversations. Relationships. Stuff.
The most elegant solution to every problem is almost always the simplest one. We try to make up complex solutions to every challenge we encounter.
Complexity breeds complexity. Simplicity fosters simpleness.
Why would you want to carry a cluttered truckload of assorted tools when a Swiss knife can do the job?
Here are a few ways in which simplicity manifests for me:
- Using a paper planner for all appointments. I can’t miss an appointment again, or get double booked. Unless I am lazy enough not to update the planner promptly.
- Using a single tool for bookmarks. I use Instapaper, with important content flowing into a Pinboard archival account.
- Maintaining a single list of ideas – in one place. That way, I know exactly where to look for the stroke of genius that hit me at midnight six months ago.
Am I perfect at this? No. I am just a rookie at the art of simplicity.
But I do make a conscious effort at getting better every day. And as long as I trend positive every night, I am a happy camper.
What could you simplify in your life today?
Try it. You’ll be glad you did.
